Fun With Fruit

Favorite Fruit Snacks

From www.easy-kid-recipes.com here are some wonderful ideas for making fruit fun for your little ones! I especially like the banana ice.

Fruitastic
Instead of serving just one piece of fruit, try using a variety of colourful fruits to keep kids interested. Serve it with yogurt dip or mini muffins on the side.

Fruit Kebabs
Try fun mini fruit kebabs using cut pieces of your kids favorite fruits and layering with cut mini muffins.

Fruit Bowl
Cut open a cantaloupe, take filling out to make a well in center, then fill up with cut up cantaloupe pieces and a variety of other cut up fruit.

Rainbow Fruit Salad
Layer fruit in a large flat serving plate in a rainbow shape. Yellow = pineapple, green = kiwi, red = strawberries, purple = grapes, blue = blueberries, and so on for a yummy rainbow fruit salad.

Dipped Fruit
As an occasional treat, serve a variety of fruit pieces with a mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon to dip on the side... Your kids will love dipping the fruit pieces into this yummy mixture.

Monkey Tails
Cut bananas in four and insert a Popsicle stick into banana pieces… a healthy banana treat to you, monkey tails to your kids. Occasionally you may want to let them dip it in a little chocolate or brown sugar.

Quick Banana Ice
simply take a few bananas and mash them in a bowl. Cover and place in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Remove from freezer, fluff up with fork for a healthy, ice cream like treat.

Frozen Yogurt Shapes
Blend a variety of fruit and yogurt at high speed. Place in fun shaped ice cube trays (or plain ice cube trays). Freeze and enjoy healthy frozen yogurt.

Frozen Mandarin Wedges
Freeze peeled and covered mandarin slices for a thirst quenching treat.
Pack some small individual baggies with a trail mix of nuts, dried fruit and m&m's

Little Tips
Never give young toddlers hard fruit or veggies such as apples or carrots. Pieces can break off and create a choking hazard. Grate or cook (to soften) the fruit or vegetable as an alternative.

Little Tips
Preschoolers love eating off a stick. Buy some popcycle sticks at the craft store and get creative... add fruit, meatballs or veggies and serve for a fun meal or snack.
